Model Railway

One of my favorite hobbies, especially in the winter time, is to design and construct model railways in scale H0. I have over the last 15 years built two large layouts togehter with my father and, we are currently planning the third.

Layout 1

Our first big Märklin M-track layout, which we began construction in the mid eighties. We broke it down five years after as it suffered from numerous design mistakes. I think I have some pictures of it somewhere that I will eventually post here.

Layout 2

This is our current layout, which we designed in the early nineties. The layout is like the first also based on the Märklin M-track system. Electrically it was intially built for conventional operation with 5 isolated sections. But today it also supports digital operation with the Märklin digital system.

Layout 3

It is now more than ten years ago that we commenced the current layout (2). It started out from a very good plan and over the years added several extensions where added to it. But now there is unfortunately no room left for further extensions, which quickly makes you feel like building a new one. Afterall the funniest part of model railways is building them!!

Hence we have now agreed to build a new layout, which will then be our third. The layout will be based on the Märklin K-track system instead of the old and noisy M-track system. We did, however, also consider switching to the new Märklin C-gleis. But we had to abandon that idea again as it turned out the new layout will require the use of flexible tracks, which is not available in the C-track system. Furthermore the K-track also looks more real, especially when used with special gravel. Last but not least it has also been on the market for many more years than the C-track, making it easier to do a good deal buying them second hand.

The planning phase is now almost complete and you may see some of the results by following the links below:
